ZXTM GLB 2.1 -> 13th September 2007 =========================================================== ZXTM GLB 2.1 is a major revision of the ZXTM GLB product family, containing functionality and stability improvements and bug fixes. Customers are recommended to upgrade to the new version to take advantage of the changes. Platform Availability for ZXTM GLB 2.1 -------------------------------------- * Linux: x86, x86_64 (Kernel 2.6.8+) * Solaris 10: x86, x86_64 & SPARC * FreeBSD 6.1+: x86 New features in 2.1 ------------------- - Monitoring User A new user has been added to allow access to the map display without having access to make changes to the configuration of the product. This user may be enabled and disabled by the administration user. - Removing machines from a cluster It is now possible to forcibly remove a machine from a cluster and optionally remove its configuration. - Graphing per machine It is now possible to graph all available values for individual or sets of machines. - Online Help An online help system has been added, providing context sensitive help for the section of the administration interface that the user is currently viewing. Other changes in 2.1 -------------------- - Improved memory behavior in client browsers Many improvements have been made to ensure that browsers do not leak memory when rendering the administration interface. - E-mail improvements E-mail settings are now applied only to a single datacenter rather than to all datacenters. - Configurable Bind IPs For operational reasons it may be desirable for ZXTM GLB to bind to a single IP address. It is now possible to configure which IPs an instance of ZXTM GLB binds to. - Configurable Port Settings It is now possible to configure the port on which the ZXTM GLB will listen for incoming DNS traffic. It is also possible to configure the port on which the administration interface is available. ZXTM GLB 2.0 -> 28th June 2007 =========================================================== ZXTM Global Load Balancer provides datacenter load balancing and failover by managing DNS responses. Clients are directed to the optimal datacenter based on availability, performance and geographic proximity. This is the first public release of ZXTM GLB. Key Features in ZXTM GLB 2.0 -------------------------------- GLB Services: It is possible to specify different settings for each group of domains that are being handled. TTLs, health monitoring and load balancing may all be set independently. Load Balancing: ZXTM GLB uses datacenter availability, performance and geographic location to determine the appropriate destination datacenter for each client request. Load balancing may be entirely performance driven, location driven, or a varying combination of both. Active-Passive Configuration: You may configure the order in which datacenters provide backup for each other. It is also possible to prevent automatic recovery, which is important for stateful web applications. Monitoring: A catalog of monitors is provided to aid management of multiple monitors. A variety of monitor types are supported, including DNS, ping monitors and HTTP-based monitors. These may be applied to any GLB service and as many monitors as required may be applied. SOAP API: Through the provided SOAP interface, it is possible to write external daemons to inform ZXTM GLB about the load of each datacenter. It is also possible to set the appropriate machine as the active machine to help with scripting disaster recovery. Visualization: There is a rich set of visualization tools to help analyze the performance and operation of your services. To visualize the geographic distribution of requests, the map page will show in real-time the locations where requests came from. To visualize the rates of requests you can interactively view graphs of the current activity and for a longer term view you can view graphs of historical activity. Supported Platforms ------------------- ZXTM GLB 2.0 can be installed on the following platforms: * Linux (x86, x86_64) Web browser support (for the online administration interface): The following browsers have been tested with ZXTM GLB: * Firefox 1.5+ * Internet Explorer 7
